Gotta love Midlothian libraries

LOVE is in the air at Midlothian’s libraries next week.

A celebration of reading and library users, Love Your Library Day, takes place on Saturday, February 2, and Midlothian Council’s Library Service has organised a range of free events.

Highlights include Love Scottish Crime, with bestselling authors Lin Anderson, Quintin Jardine and Stuart MacBride; Love Live Music, with performances by singers, musicians and bands, including a recent runner-up in Nitten’s Got Talent and members of Lasswade High School’s Friday Night Project; and Love Activities, including Booky Table Tennis, pole fitness and the Xbox challenge.

Scottish Country Dancing and head massages are also on offer.

Come along on the day to borrow up to five CDs and two DVDs and request five items, all free of charge.

If eight items are borrowed, your name will be entered in the Great Book Raffle, with prizes including a Kobo ereader, an iPod shuffle and goodie bags from local businesses.

Visit Local Studies and Danderhall Library, which are normally closed on a Saturday, and learn about ebooks, hear stories and find out how to write the next great novel.

Councillor Bob Constable, the cabinet member for public services and leisure, said: “Libraries nowadays don’t just offer books, but lots of great activities for every age group to enjoy.

“Books are an important part of our everyday learning and social activity and libraries are at the heart of all our local communities.”
