Head of education

Midlothian council has appointed a new head of education.

Peter McNaughton, currently assistant director in the government agency with responsibility for Early Years, Families and Partnerships, is due to start his new role in April.

On a two-year secondment from Education Scotland, he will work solely for Midlothian on education issues. Mr McNaughton’s past jobs include head teacher at two primary schools in West Lothian.

The former HM Assistant Chief Inspector of Education will bring with him “a wealth of experience” and “extensive knowledge in delivering education and learning services”, according to Councillor Lisa Beattie (SNP).
