Help for Midlothian drink and drug addicts
People in Midlothian now have extra support to help them move on from problem alcohol and drug use.
The three local alcohol and drug partnerships and NHS Lothian have signed up to a Lothian-wide SMART Recovery consortium, the largest of its kind in the UK.
SMART – which stands for ‘Self Management and Recovery Training’ – is designed to help people develop the tools and skills they need to gain control over their addictive behaviours. The programme focuses on self help ‘mutual aid’ or group sessions and uses secular and science-based therapeutic techniques.
For Midlothian, this means embedding SMART Recovery principles into services and establishing a structured and vibrant network of SMART Recovery aftercare groups for people currently in treatment.
