Help to conserve Newbattle wood
Midlothian residents are being encouraged to conserve a local wood.
BTCV Scotland, in conjunction with Forestry Commission Scotland, is running volunteering events to improve Lord Ancrum’s Wood.
The events are intended to give local people the opportunity to develop new skills and create lasting improvements to the woodland.
Lord Ancrum’s Wood, on the banks of the River South Esk, is full of wildflowers and wildlife and BTCV Scotland is keen to improve the site for wildlife and amenity.
The scheme was welcomed warmly at last week’s meeting of Mayfield and Easthouses Community Council,
Members hope improvements will allow residents to gain a greater appreciation of a local natural resource and extend the pathway network in the area.
The next “neighbourwood” events are on Monday, February 20, and Monday, March 5, with both sessions running from 10am-3pm.
Volunteers should meet at the bridge into Lord Ancrum’s Wood from Newbattle Abbey College grounds and are advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
