Livestock killed in lorry crash

Five cows and 150 sheep were killed when an agricultural lorry overturned near Temple.

The 44-tonne articulated lorry was transporting 330 sheep and five cows when it flipped onto its side shortly after 3pm on Tuesday August 24.

Emergency services arrived to find a scene of devastation near the entrance to the Arniston Estate on the B6372.

More than 400 litres of diesel spilled from the lorry after the crash and threatened to enter a nearby stream.

Some of the animals died instantly and an emergency vet was requested by the attending services to put many more of the seriously injured animals down.
