Loanhead petition plea for crossing

A 200-NAME petition demanding a pedestrian crossing outside Pentland Park Residential Caravan Park, Loanhead, has been presented to Midlothian Council.

The campaign has been spearheaded by Janet Robertson (72), who claimed residents found it "nigh on impossible" to cross the busy A701.

Last week, Mrs Robertson received the backing of Loanhead and District Community Council after she explained that early discussions with council officials had proved unsuccessful.

Mrs Robertson, who has lived at Pentland Park for four years, was told there was no justification for a controlled pedestrian crossing at this stretch of the A701.

The nearest crossings are at Bilston and the New Pentland traffic lights at IKEA.
