Local library petition started

A PETITION to save Newtongrange Library was signed by more than 100 people in just two days as locals continue to worry over the future of community facilities.

Concerned about the possible relocation of local facilities to the new Newbattle High School campus, local resident and business owner Julie Read (41), decided to start the petition to save what she regards as a busy library.

She said: “Relocating it demonstrates a failed understanding of the social, cultural and educational importance of libraries at the centre of our communities and the role librarians play in providing services.

“Relocation would rip the heart out of the village and our community.”

The petition can be viewed at http://chn.ge/WU6azm or from.facebook.com/Keepourlibrarylocal
