Midlothian £182m budget go-ahead

MIDLOTHIAN Council has approved a £182.2 million revenue budget for 2013/14 – despite calls for an alternative savings package.

The opposition Labour group put forward an amendment at last week’s meeting of the full council, a move criticised by the council’s deputy leader Owen Thompson (SNP).

He argued that the motion was not competent because it sought to reverse decisions made in December, when the council approved savings of £3 million to balance the budget for the year.
