Midlothian education chief to leave post

Don Ledingham, the Executive Director of Services for People at East Lothian Council, and Director of Education and Children’s Services for Midlothian Council, is to leave his respective posts in the summer.

Mr Ledingham has accepted an invitation to join Drummond International – one of Scotland’s most respected international leadership consultancies - as Director of Innovation Leadership.

He is also to establish The Scottish Leadership Trust, a long term not-for-profit organisation that will promote and integrate values-based leadership within and across Scotland’s public, private and voluntary sectors.

The first council director in Scotland to have simultaneously taken up such senior roles in two local authorities, Mr Ledingham will leave his current posts with effect from July 31 this year.

Commenting on his departure, Mr Ledingham said: “I’m going to miss my colleagues and people from the communities in both authorities but I am excited about working with Drummond International and helping leaders and organisations to develop the innovative skills necessary to allow Scotland to succeed in the 21st Century.

The Chief Executive of East Lothian Council, Angela Leitch, said: “Don has done a great job in developing our partnering arrangements with Midlothian Council and has made a significant contribution to the leadership of the organisation in the various roles he has held. I appreciate the appeal this new opportunity has for Don, and while he will be a loss to our Council Management Team, I wish him every success in the future. I’m sure we will continue to hear his name connected with national initiatives that relate to the learning and wellbeing of young people.”
