Midlothian teenagers in care given a voice

CHILDREN in care in Midlothian are challenging perceptions and joining a national anti-stigma campaign.

Members of Midlothian's Kids in Care Krew (KICK) want to give local youngsters in residential and foster care a voice to challenge misconceptions and negative attitudes towards kids in care.

KICK meets once a month, and allows people aged 12-20 the opportunity to meet other young people in similar situations to themselves.

The group also gives children in care a voice in the wider community, through involvement with the Midlothian Youth Platform, and allows them to help shape council policy, including being involved in the formation of new "children's champions".
