Midlothian Council agrees to Orange parades
The Loyal Orange Institution of Scotland will be holding two marches in Midlothian.
The first Midlothian District Lodge 52 parade will take place in Bonnyrigg on Saturday, June 27, at 9.15am.
It will be followed with a procession in Penicuik at 5pm.
Around 160 people will be involved in both parades including 16 stewards and 26 band members.
Recommendations made
Midlothian councillors agreed to both marches.
It follows last year's legal battle over a decision to ban an afternoon procession.
Inspector Peter Jones said meetings had taken place between the Lodge and the police to discuss issues surrounding the processions.
Some recommendations had been made, which were accepted by the Order.
He confirmed that he was not aware of any disorder associated with previous Orange parades in Midlothian.
Wreath laying
County Grand Master James MacLean said the Orange Order's record of organising these and much larger events in Midlothian and surrounding area "was impeccable".
He noted the council had received no objections and the police had put forward standard conditions.
Mr MacLean said the Bonnyrigg parade, which would include a wreath laying at the war memorial, would be followed by a larger event in Kirkcaldy to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne.
This would start at noon and include a religious service and public meeting.
After this, members would return to their home areas.
This would be when the Penicuik procession would take place.
It would be followed by a social event in the town.
