Midlothian police chief warns of budget pressure
FUTURE budget constraints could have a knock-on effect for policing in Midlothian.
The new area commander has admitted that, while E Division has benefited from the Scottish Government promise to recruit additional police officers, the force will "not be immune" to the expected public sector cutbacks.
Chief Superintendent Mark Williams (40) said there would be "increased pressure" to trim budgets from 2011/12.
"We will have to very carefully manage our resources and have to think of ways we can deliver our services to just as high a quality and standard with less money.
"As a force we are turning our mind to planning for that," he said.

In his 16 years’ service, he was inspector at Penicuik for a year in 1999 and served as commander at the Force Communications Centre, Loanhead, for two years.
Prior to taking up his new post, based at Dalkeith Police Station, he was the superintendent responsible for policing in Edinburgh city centre taking in the Scottish Parliament and Holyrood.
