Mining museum funding is safe

THE National Mining Museum Scotland has had its funding protected and hopes to build on an “ambitious” 2012.

The Newtongrange tourist attraction is to receive £370,000 in 2013-14 from the Scottish Government. The museum will be hoping to build on the success of last year when it opened three new attractions and brought the big screen back to the area by showing new films in their Old Power House.

During 2012, the tourist attraction opened the ‘Interactive Zone’ - a soft-play area which attracted 11,765 visitors in its first three months, the ‘Energy Lab’ - a portable workshop teaching primary school pupils about renewables, and the Exhibition Centre which features animation works by BAFTA-nominated artist Clare Lamond and senior Midlothian pupils.

Real more on this in the February 28 edition of the Midlothian Advertiser.
