MSP hails progress for single fire service

preparations for the new single fire and rescue service in the Lothian and Borders area are said to be “progressing well”.

Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs Roseanna Cunningham was speaking after attending a meeting of officers involved in the five Lothian and Borders Pathfinder groups that are shaping arrangements for Edinburgh City, East Lothian, West Lothian, Midlothian and Scottish Borders.

David Millar, Acting Chief Officer of Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service, outlined key aspects of each group’s work, which have included preparing local plans and agreeing how the service will be accountable and meet the needs of local people.

Speaking after the meeting at Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service headquarters, Ms Cunningham said: “I am delighted with the progress being made not just here in Lothian and Borders but across Scotland to put strong local arrangements in place.”
