New Midlothian lab will create jobs

Midlothian’s place as a centre of scientific excellence was further cemented this week with the opening of a new lab.

Up to 40 new jobs could be created at expanding Roslin biotech firm, Ingenza, as the new tissue culture suite comes on stream.

The state-of-the-art clean room will expand the company’s capabilities to construct efficient cell lines to produce human therapeutics. The work will complement Ingenza’s microbial strain construction expertise.

The company, based at the Roslin BioCentre, has seen its staff numbers double in size every two years since being established in 2003.
