No excuse for abuse

Midlothian police are targeting domestic abuse as part of a national anti-violence campaign.

So far, 22 people have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal as a result of the two-month initiative.

During the campaign, local officers have been taking targeted action against known offenders. In addition to carrying out bail checks on those facing prosecution on domestic abuse charges, officers have been enforcing arrest warrants against those suspected of violence against their partner.

In addition, extra police have been deployed on Friday and Saturday nights to hand out literature with a strong anti-domestic abuse message highlighting the positive example that men can set their children.

Detective Inspector Kenny Gray, who is leading the initiative, said: “Domestic abuse cannot and will not be tolerated, and Lothian and Borders Police is committed to ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.”
