On your bike for a prize from radio station

SPORTY Midlothian residents are being offered the chance to win quality recycled bikes by listening to their community radio station.

The Midlothian Bicycle Recycling Project, in association with Black Diamond 107.8 FM, is running a series of phone-in competitions on the Chris and Cat show every Sunday from noon to 3pm. Listeners can win by phoning the radio station when they hear Bicycle Race by Queen.

Winners can choose their bike from a range which have been upgraded by experienced technicians from the Midlothian Bicycle Recycling Project.

On October 14 Joseph Pryde of Newbattle Abbey Crescent became the first winner of a Dawes mountain bike. The competition is due to run for another 10 weeks.

A Black Diamond 107.8 FM spokesman said: “This is community radio supporting local community projects and we would encourage other community groups to submit their community news and information.”

Bob Paul of MARCC — which hosts the Midlothian Bicycling Project — said: “The benefits to the community are also environmental as unwanted bikes don’t need to be dumped, but are prepared for re-use.

“People can donate their unwanted bicycles by telephoning 0131 663 8888 during office hours”
