Parking not fine at Lidl Dalkeith!

A DAD who parked in a near-empty car park to visit his disabled son for a few hours has told how he was landed with a £90 bill.

Brian Ball (23) from Mayfield had been shopping in Dalkeith's Lidl store and left his car in the car park behind the shop while he visited his one-year-old son, Owen, who lives with his mum on Buccleuch Street.

Owen was born prematurely and suffered problems due to his brain not being fully developed, so requires extra care.

Mr Ball collected his car around three hours later, shortly before 11pm when the car park was near empty, and thought nothing more of it until receiving a letter demanding payment a week later.

After hearing of Mr Ball's circumstances, Lidl have agreed to drop the parking fine.

Councillor Colin Beattie (SNP) has received complaints from several constituents about fines in private car parks after making an appeal in the Advertiser.

He said: "It seems to be a real problem – I've got 28 individual complaints. It is something I have been pursuing. If anyone wants to contact me with any details then they can do so."
