Penicuik rail study hits buffers

PLANS to re-open a railway link to Penicuik have been shunted into a siding.

Midlothian councillors were told last week that students had turned down the chance to carry out a feasibility study on a heavy rail link.

And no financial provision has been made in the council’s revenue budget to conduct one.

Minimal work has been carried out on the project since the Scottish Executive rejected a £295,000 bid to fund a detailed feasibility study in 2001.
