Pension woes for Midlothian women

Six hundred women in Midlothian will lose out as a result of pension reforms introduced by the UK Government, according to the Labour Party.

Reforms to the state pension will begin this year, fast-tracking changes to the current system.

Women born in 1952 and 1953 will not be eligible for the single tier pension since they are due to retire in 2017, before the state pension reforms come into effect. Men born during the same period, however, will qualify.

But Midlothian MP David Hamilton (Lab) has accused the government of “trying to hide the full impact” of its changes for pensioners.
