Pentlands park protection is uphill task

TOUGHER controls and charges for recreational events in the Pentland Hills are being considered by councillors.

The Pentland Hills Regional Park’s joint committee may implement stricter regulations on access and charges to help preserve the popular wildlife reserve.

Members of its governing body (representing Edinburgh, Midlothian and West Lothian councils) have been told about a sharp increase in the number of recreational events, from 26 in 2011 to 36 in 2012. Participation rose from 1880 to 3356.
