Poppy is helping Newbyres residents blossom
A SPECIAL visitor is brightening the lives of care home residents in Gorebridge.
Every Thursday, residents at Newbyres Village Care Home prepare for the weekly visit from Irish Setter Poppy and owner Julia Shaw.
Ms Shaw explained: "We go once a week to Newbyres on a Thursday morning and see all the residents. Poppy thoroughly enjoys it - probably because of all the attention she gets. I think everybody gets something out of it. I love it."
Resource manager for older people, Jane Fairnie, said: "The residents just love it. For people that have had pets to have a dog coming in is brilliant. People look forward to it - Thursday morning is known as Poppy morning!"
The Therapets service, which sees sociable dogs visit residents in care homes and hospitals, is run by charity Canine Concern Scotland.
