Fiona Hyslop MSP examines the refurbishment of the Cross Keys Hotel in Dalkeith.

A PIONEERING building conservation project in Midlothian has earned Scottish Government endorsement.

Fiona Hyslop, cabinet secretary for culture and external affairs, visited Dalkeith and praised progress on the Townscape Heritage Initiative/Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme.

The last priority project, 1-3 High Street (Cheque Centre and Sun Beach), has been awarded a grant for repairs to the roof, stone, repair and restoration of the original chimney, window repairs and improvements to the shop fronts.
