Provost in Howgate planning row
Provost Adam Montgomery has been accused of showing “ignorance” and a “lack of class” over comments he made about objectors to a planning application.
Councillor Montgomery (Lab) told Midlothian Council’s planning committee he had a “no problem whatsoever” in approving plans for a single storey, four-bedroom property at a farm settlement at Fallhills, Howgate.
He added: “Trying to get anything built in the countryside is always very difficult, and I have had a bee in my bonnet about this since I joined the council.
“I don’t see any problem with this application at all. We have people that live in these areas who object to every single thing that comes in to this council.
“For the life of me I don’t know why they continue to do this – it’s the same people and the same objections all the time.
“In the case of one or two of them, if they were trying to build their own house now they would not get permission for it.”
