Quest to help Midlothian’s school leavers

IS Midlothian failing its young people?

Skills Development Scotland’s report to the Scottish Government makes uncomfortable reading for agencies charged with helping the county’s school leavers take that first step on the employment, education or training ladder.

According to figures for Scotland, 89.9 per cent of school leavers were in work, training, further education or other activities.

In Midlothian, the figure was 85.4 per cent - placing it at the bottom of the table for the country’s 32 local authority areas. But the county can point to successes that offer hope to teenagers completing their secondary education.
