Readers rally to help Brandon Bell

A TEENAGER suffering from a rare brain tumour is heading to America for treatment thanks to the generosity of Advertiser readers.

Brandon Bell (13) will undergo eight weeks of treatment at the Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville, Florida, after his family, originally from Pathhead, raised 70,000 in just one month.

An appeal in last week's Advertiser by the Bell family to raise the final 10,000 needed for the treatment was met with a generous response.

Brandon's dad Malcolm (41), who grew up in Pathhead, said: "We've managed to get enough money together to pay the bill for the proton therapy treatment so they'll be able to give us a date this week.

"We've had responses from all over. We've got so many letters and cards from well wishers and people have come up and said 'we read the story – what can we do?'"
