Rosewell Primary set to be extended
Rosewell Primary School. Front of building, Carnethie Street.
A MAJOR extension is planned for Rosewell Primary School.
Midlothian Council plans to create three new class bases at the rear of the existing building, together with a central atrium and resource centre.
Additional features will include a new staff room; a visitor entrance and office; additional dining accommodation; a new head-teachers room and a new janitor’s office.
The council requires that the school be extended to cater for predicted school roll rises, and is also proposing that the Carnethie Street building be remodelled to form new nursery accommodation.
Parents have in recent years expressed concern over rising class sizes, and with 135 new houses recently built at Whitehill Mains, and more planned for Whitehill House (120) and Gorton Road (19), it is expected that 78 new pupils will soon arrive in the area.
Based on a classroom capacity of 30 youngsters, this influx would see the school roll exceed beyond the building’s capacity of 125 pupils.
