A NEWTONGRANGE dog owner has told how he watched in horror as his pet Rottweiler was swept away down a river.

Stevie Myatt (31), risked his own life by jumping in after 10-stone Bobo and then needed rescuing himself.

The drama unfolded during a recent walk by the River North Esk at Ironmills Park, Dalkeith.

Stevie, of Gardiner Place, Newtongrange, was taking Bobo for a stroll through the woods when the pooch disappeared. Moments later, he was spotted bobbing towards a weir downstream.

Roofer Stevie, who bought two-year-old Bobo as a pup, told the Advertiser: “It’s horrible watching your dog drown. I saw him going under once and that was enough for me – I just went right in with all my gear on. It didn’t cross my mind that I might drown myself until I was screaming for help!”
