School leavers face struggle in tough times

A crunch meeting is to be held after Midlothian emerged bottom of the pile when it comes to the success of its school leavers.

Midlothian came last out of Scotland’s 32 local authority areas in a study by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) into what happened to youngsters after they left school.

The position has been described by a local business leader as “very worrying”.

A summit meeting in Bonnyrigg next Wednesday (February 27) will bring together SDS, colleges, business representatives and Midlothian Council in a bid to find a way forward.
