Shops alone not enough in Penicuik

A MIXED use for vacant shops could improve Penicuik town centre, according to a Midlothian business leader.

Gordon Henderson, Scotland’s senior development manager for the Federation of Small Businesses, feels that the days of town centres dominated by shops are over.

He believes that small businesses could make use of Penicuik’s vacant premises and revitalise its retail heart.

The Dalkeith businessman was reacting to the recent Advertiser story about concerns over the unsightly nature of Penicuik town centre due to vacant and rundown shops.
