Street name plan to honour Bonnyrigg's tragic hero David Dunn
A Bonnyrigg grandfather who lost his life in trying to halt an armed bank robbery 15 years ago is set to be honoured by having a street named after him.
Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council is spearheading a campaign to name a street in the new council housing development at Campview Road after tragic pensioner David Dunn.
Mr Dunn, 63, was shot dead as he chased three men who had robbed the local branch of the Bank of Scotland of 185,000 in October 1994.
With new housing developments taking place in and around Bonnyrigg, community councillor Brian Scott recently suggested a new street be named after Mr Dunn.
The community council supported the idea at its last meeting and chairman Ian Baxter has approached Provost Adam Montgomery with the suggestion.
Mr Dunn's daughter Sheena McKenzie told The Advertiser the family was "thrilled" by prospect of a street named in his memory.
