Loanhead Midlothian - Sundial in Memorial Park Gardens- Gifted by Provost Hunter to commemorate Queen's visit

Thieves have struck for a second time, swiping the commemorative sundial in the Memorial Park, Loanhead.

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after the copper and bronze globe was stolen from its plinth overnight between Tuesday, January 31, and Wednesday, February 1.

A member of the public, who was walking through the park, discovered the sundial, erected to mark a visit by The Queen to the town, had been stolen, and contacted the police.

Thieves lifted the sundial last May, only for it to be returned a week later. Local firm MacTaggart Scott carried out repairs to the damaged monument, and it was returned to the park in December.
