LOCAL residents are to be given an opportunity to increase their work skills and learn more about the benefits of volunteering through a series of initiatives being rolled out by Volunteer Centre Midlothian.

The ‘Support into Volunteering’ project assists people with mental health difficulties to access local volunteering opportunities.

One-to-one support, taster sessions, various types of volunteering options and a ‘Preparing to Volunteer’ course are just a few things on offer, which will allow people to find out more about the benefits of volunteering.

Volunteer Centre Midlothian’s Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator Cheryl Prior, told the Advertiser: “A lack of confidence and low self- esteem form some of the barriers to giving volunteering a try. This project aims to offer support and encouragement to allow people to achieve a successful volunteering experience.”
