Update on school plan
Don Ledingham, director of education and children's services for Midlothian Council
TOURS of the new Lasswade High School are to be offered in the consultation process for Newbattle High.
Speaking exclusively to the Advertiser, cabinet member for education Councillor Lisa Beattie (SNP) and Midlothian Council’s director of education Don Ledingham (pictured below) gave more information on the £25-35 million school.
They also revealed their hopes for the latest round of consultation for Newbattle High, which will include the options for closing community facilities.
Mr Ledingham revealed a potential regeneration package for the centre of Newtongrange, given that the village could lose four community buildings in such close proximity to each other.
The Newbattle consultation will engage with local groups and stakeholders, culminating with public meetings in the three communities. The council must submit final plans on June 25.
Councillor Beattie is keen for a positive consultation.
