Ya beauty – Mayfield shop to become salon
A MIDLOTHIAN shop unit is being given a facelift – and customers will also receive a new look.
Calli Wallace has been given change of use planning permission to create a beauty salon at 9 Bogwood Court in Mayfield.
Councillors at Midlothian Council’s planning committee were told that the single-storey, flat-roofed building, vacant since August, lay within a clutch of commercial premises, including a butcher, baker, two hairdressers, pharmacy, kilt hire shop, motocross shop and dressmaker.
In his report to members, the council’s head of planning and development, Ian Johnson, said: “The proposed change of use from retail to beauty salon would provide a new use within the town centre and also bring a vacant commercial unit back into use.
“This would improve the range of leisure facilities in the town centre and contribute to its vitality and viability. The proposed development would not have a detrimental impact on the surrounding built-up area.”
Councillors agreed to grant planning permission on condition that the extract ventilation system gains the approval of planning officials.
