Councillors were furious that staff affected by the cuts to crossing patrols had learnt about them in the Advertiser.
Receiving an update from officers last week about plans to axe lunch time crossings, Councillor Alex Bennet (Lab) said: “I spoke to some of the traffic patrols in my ward. One had read about it in the Advertiser, he hadn’t been told. So it seems to me it’s in the papers before these people get any word and that’s not good enough. To get told through a newspaper is shocking in this day and age.”

Councillor Derek Milligan (Lab) added: “It surely doesn’t take much to tell them their is going to be a review. Dinner time is a big part of their day and wage so how come they are finding out through the Advertiser?”
Council officers promised to take the comments on board.
