The four new train stations in Midlothian along the Borders Railway line are to be monitored by talking CCTV cameras.
The stations at Shawfair, Eskbank, Gorebridge and Newtongrange will all be unmanned.
So, to deter youngsters from hanging around the stations and to keep people safe, the CCTV cameras at each of the stations will be fitted with speakers through which staff watching from the ScotRail control centre in Dunfermline can speak directly to people on the platform.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The new railway stations on the Borders Railway line will have a dual announcement system.
“There will be an automated public address system which is used to announce train information; this will have an override function to allow CCTV operators in the Network Rail control centre to communicate directly with passengers at the station.”
