It was while playing the new Call of Duty video game that a Bonnyrigg man responded to a more serious one – his wife was going into labour.
Self-employed joiner Daryl Dalglish (27) immediately dropped his joypad and came running upstairs.
Less than seven hours later, at 1.11am on January 2, he watched Laura (26) give birth to Evie Elizabeth Jane Dalglish, Midlothian’s first baby of 2014.
Weighing 7lb 10oz, the newborn had arrived sooner then expected, as Laura had not been due until January 18.
When the Advertiser caught up with the delighted dad on Friday, he was about to make his way out the door to collect his wife and young daughter from the hospital.
