Bonnyrigg girl’s triumph over brain tumour

Charli Evans is now on the mend after surgery

When Bonnyrigg teenager Charli Evans suffered a massive stroke last September it led to the discovery of a rare tumour on her brain.

Thirteen months on, and now recovered, the 15-year-old has raised thousands of pounds to help young cancer patients.

The pupil at Lasswade High had medical experts baffled when she lost her appetite and suffered terrible headaches over a 24-month period.

Misdiagnosed with glandular fever, dieticians suspected she had an eating disorder when her weight fell to just five-and-a-half stone.

Her mother Carol explained: “She was missing school due to having no appetite and feeling sleepy all the time. We were at the doctors every week, and as her mother I just knew that something was terribly wrong.”
