Bonnyrigg pensioner: ‘I shouldn’t be living like this’

A Bonnyrigg pensioner who says he has just two months to live has been told it will take five weeks for the council to fit a front door he can use.

Suffering from motor neuron disease, Thomas McFadden’s muscles have wasted to the point that he struggles to lift his arms.

Remote control windows were recently fitted at his Durham Grove home, but his door has not been kitted out with similar technology.

Mr McFadden (73) said: “I cannot open the door or even switch the lights on or off. I’m trapped. If a fire broke out I would be a goner.”
