A proposal to bring forward plans for a 20mph-zone pilot in Lasswade to be rolled out across the county was rejected by councillors last week.
At the August meeting of the Cabinet it was decided that such a scheme would be held back until a report detailing a comprehensive strategy for the introduction of these speed zones is completed.
However, the Performance Review and Scrutiny Committee later called in this decision and recommended that the pilot project in Lasswade Village go ahead as soon as possible, with further pilots earmarked for Danderhall, Gorebridge, Mayfield, Bilston and Penicuik town centre.
The matter was referred to last week’s full council meeting, where Councillor Ian Baxter (Green) proposed that the pilot project go ahead immediately.
The Cabinet decision to delay the pilot scheme was backed by ten votes to eight.
