A Midlothian care home manager is preparing for the challenge of a lifetime in support of the good work carried out by Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Brenda Smith (46), a duty manager at Newbyres Village Care Home in Gorebridge, is to trek through the Grand Canyon next year in a bid to raise £3,350 for the charity.

Brenda, who lives in Main Street, Newtongrange, is almost half way towards her target thanks to a series of fundraising events.

Her next event will be an autumn fair with car boot stall, children’s lucky dip, home baking and refreshments at the care home on Saturday, November 9, from 10am to 2pm.

Brenda said she knew of many people who had received the support of Marie Curie.
