The pressures faced by young people who care for relatives have been highlighted in a new radio play.

The work has been created by four young carers who are supported by Children 1st Midlothian Young Carers service.

They worked with playwright Anita Gallo to develop the script for ‘Looking After Mum’, which tells the story of a P7 pupil and the impact of her mother’s mental health and alcohol issues.

Thirteen year old young carer Lauren, who plays single mum Maggie in the play, said: “I hope kids listening to the play realise it is okay to tell people about what’s happening at home.”
