Five Midlothian organisations are celebrating after clinching more than £106,000 in funding between them.
Penicuik YMCA/YWCA has been awarded £46,560 from the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund towards the cost of replacing the derelict double, all-weather, multisport court next to the YM’s premises at Queensway.
The total cost will be in the order of £93,000, most of which is in place. It is hoped that, provided top-up funding can be secured, the construction will begin in June and be completed in two months.
David Fletcher, who has been leading the bid on behalf of the YM, said: “This is an important step forward to creating excellent new community sports facilities at Penicuik Y.”
Four organisations have secured Lottery funding, including the Volunteer Centre Midlothian, which is “delighted” with its £39,520 grant from the Big Lottery Young Start scheme.
The Glencorse Centre, Newbattle Community Nursery and Howgate WRI all received Lottery cash.
