A mother whose son died last year is holding a fundraiser in his name to aid the charity that helped her grandchildren through the ordeal.

In March last year 32-year-old window fitter Mark Patterson fell out of an Edinburgh window while working.

His mum Hazel Patterson (58), from Newtongrange, is holding a fundraiser at Mayfield Community Club on July 5 to raise money for Richmond Hope, the bereavement charity that helped Mark’s children Marc (12), Ava (9) and James (1).

Hazel said: “My grandchildren have been getting help from them and I wanted to give something back. So this fundraiser is for them and in memory of my son.

“If he had died from cancer I would have raised money for cancer charities. But because he died tragically and the counselling service has been great for the kids I decided to do it for them.

“They have been great. But they can only provide 10 weeks of counselling due to a lack of funding. It’s such a good organisation. You don’t realise just how many children they help until you go to their meetings, you would be surprised.”
