Members of the Fraser family present �13255.01 to Marie Curie Cancer Care

A Loanhead family has raised a record-breaking sum of money for the hospice that looked after their loved one in the final days of her life.

Les Fraser, his family and friends collected more than £13,300 – a record for a single family event – for the Marie Curie Hospice at Fairmilehead in memory of his wife Jean.

Jean died in March, aged 56, just 12 weeks after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Les, who owns Aerial ABW Cabs, said: “The care was amazing for my wife and nothing was a bother for them. I stayed the last two nights and the staff were so helpful.”

The devotion of the staff prompted Les, who had been married to Jean for 35 years, to hold a charity night at Loanhead Miners’ Welfare Club, which exceeded all expectations.

“It was unbelievable. It showed how much Jean was liked. It was really good.

“I had a target in my head. I was hoping to get £3,000 but as things started to progress my brother ‘Fisher’ [Lottery winner Alex Fraser] said he would match the £3,000.
