Awareness of the need for life-saving defibrillators in local communities has increased in the last nine months.
And help, support and advice is available to businesses, groups and organisations looking to purchase their own machine.
Last week the Advertiser launched its Appeal from the Heart campaign to help Mid-lothian communities save lives.
Bryan Finlay, the Scottish Ambulance Service’s community resuscitation and development manager for the Lothians and Borders, said: “I would say that in the last six to eight months there has certainly been some interest.”
Bryan and his colleagues can advise on the best type of defibrillator for a group’s needs, the costs involved and if grant assistance is available.
Depending on the group there may be training costs involved but Bryan added: “You don’t necessarily have to have training. They are idiot-proof these machines.”
