A Loanhead firm has stepped in with an £800 donation after reading in The Advertiser about the theft of bikes from Saltersgate School.

Three tricycles, which were bought new at a cost of £350 each, and a £50 second-hand mountain bike were stolen from the special school last month.

Last week Police Scotland confirmed that two of the trikes had been recovered and officers were following a positive line of inquiry.

Touched by the plight of the pupils, Zenith, a specialist structural repairs company based at Bilston Glen Industrial Estate, sent a surprise cheque after reading in The Advertiser about the thefts from the county’s only school for children with additional support needs (ASN).

A Police Scotland spokesman urged anyone who had seen the other bikes to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
