Midlothian will become brighter and more colourful this weekend when Christmas lights are switched on in various communities.

In Penicuik the big switch-on will be at 4pm in the town centre precinct, with Penicuik Citizen of the Year Mose Hutchison doing the honours.

Meanwhile in Dalkeith, the Dalkeith Festival Committee will be hosting an alternative lighting experience. At 4.15pm a parade will make its way via the High Street to Jarnac Court, where the lights will be switched on by Santa and Woodburn Primary pupils Rhys Szczypior and Jordon Ferguson.

The Mayfield and Easthouses Christmas Lights are to be switched on Sunday at 4pm in the square, with stalls, singing and facepainting at Mayfield Leisure Centre from 2pm.
