A new radio station officially hits the airwaves tomorrow (Friday) when Crystal FM 107.4 is launched for Penicuik and surrounding area.

Based out of the Crystal Business Centre, Eastfield Industrial Estate, the station launches with an 8pm concert in the Craigiebield House Hotel, Bog Road, Penicuik.

Featuring a number of local bands, all proceeds will be going towards Crystal FM’s equipment fund.

Explaining the stations origins, radio co-ordinator Colin McCall said: “It came about because of the poor reception in this area for Black Diamond. An application was sought for a repeator transmitter so the Penicuik reception could be improved.

“However, Ofcom said that wasn’t possible as it was against community radio regulations as community radio is hyper-local.”
